Comparing the Core Economic Area to the Periphery
If we take our two countries side by side, we can see many differences:
- Italy has a greater population of 59 million people, while Zimbabwe has only 14 million
- Of those, Italy has the greater literacy rate, has free education at lower levels and has greater and easier access to higher education, which is difficult in Zimbabwe
- Italy has more financial capital and more efficient methods of transportation, while Zimbabwe struggles greatly with basic needs for a majority of the population
Zimbabwe lives in worse conditions, but it can pull itself out
It is evident that the conditions are much worse in Zimbabwe, but measures can be taken to increase capital and assure better living conditions for them. It is definitely possible for Zimbabwe to improve its economy and become prosperous.
The first obvious solution is the addition of new jobs. With recent jobs having been removed and with Zimbabwe already having a large portion of unofficially employed citizens, this would greatly benefit the population, and therefore the government. The population is well suited to work, they simply need an area where they can make use of this work force. Also, to expand on this valuable asset, easier access to higher education would also be of great aid. This would not only allow for the internal growth of Zimbabwe, but the workers could migrate out and then bring back large sums to their families to escape poverty.

The other viable solution sits in borrowing money to stimulate the economy, effectively an investment that will help recover Zimbabwe. The country already has means of production, it just needs help to be refined to allow for great commerce and prosperity. For example, the great mining industry can be prosperous, it just needs an investment, but it also requires renovations of the transport system to assure efficient exports. With a little help, Zimbabwe will provide for itself to a much better degree, which will allow for the country to acquire more capital.

Zimbabwe is already taking the right steps towards improving its economy. Since the country has had issues feeding its population, Britain has invested 72 million dollars into rural farms to aid Zimbabwe's development. There certainly is hope and change can be done, and in no time, Zimbabwe can leave periphery status.
